Mission: Being a welcoming space and information center for the community
This year's summer reading program features our annual book walk, summer reading bingo, and an author talk.
Book Walk
In keeping with the Palermo Library Summer Reading theme of “Please Bug Me!”, the Book Walk book this year is titled “Hey Little Ant” by Phillip and Hannah Hoose. Walk the trail while reading the book at the Palermo Preserve (located on the Turner Ridge Road) starting on Monday 7/21/25. Afterwards, come to the library to complete fun, related bug activities throughout the summer.

Author Talk
This Summer, the Palermo library invites young readers to explore the fascinating, messy and totally awesome side of nature with the book “World of Rot”. Please join us on Tuesday July 29 at 3:30 to meet the author, Britt Crow-Miller. A celebration of decomposition, biodiversity and the hidden heroes of the natural world, the book is described as “a Mary Roach book for kids” making worms, fungi and decay downright irresistible!
A variety of complimentary titles available at the library will help young readers dive deeper into the busy world beneath their feet-where bugs, beetles and bacteria are hard at work keeping the planet in balance.
Children can pick up a “World of Rot” bookmark and a Summer Reading Bingo board (if they don’t already have one) to earn prizes for time spent exploring books that make learning about nature’s grossest (and coolest) processes seriously FUN!!
